The Pen Review: Bomb Pop

Bomb Pop Cover.jpg

Bomb Pop by Erin O'Riordan

Publisher: Erotique Press

Publication Date: July 4, 2009

Format: E-book

Length: 37 pages

Genre: Contemporary erotic romance

Heat rating: Medium

Contact: www.aeess.com

Rating: star4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gif

What I liked: I loved how Erin took a treat and made it so erotic! I also loved how it went from something erotic to something very sweet between the two main characters. A sweet yet tantalizing read!

Synopsis:
Bomb-Pop (n): 1. A classic American frozen treat, a fruit-flavored popsicle in the red, white and blue of the American flag. 2. The story of Gretchen Malone, a second-grade teacher who normally keeps her wits about her, especially when it comes to workplace romances. That is, until hunky kindergarten teacher Thom Reno brings up a long-buried memory from summers past and a repressed schoolgirl crush along with it.

Excerpt:

I backed into the teacher=s lounge and set my stack of papers on the conference table.
"Hey, Miss Malone."

At the far end of the table, Thom Reno sat turning a single popsicle stick over and over in his hands. I felt a rush of blood to my cheeks.

"Oh, hi, Mr. Reno." "Looks like you have quite a bit of work to do." I thought of moving my pile of papers closer to where Thom sat, but that would have been inviting trouble. He must have noticed my red cheeks. To make matters worse, he looked especially good that day. He hadn't shaved, and his black beard was at that perfect stage before it starts to get too messy. He wore the black corduroys, the ones that really flattered his butt when he stuck a hard pack of cigarettes in the back pocket. His rumpled, gray-striped sweater clung to his shoulders the way I, in off moments, wished I could.
"Handwriting exercises," I said, thumbing through the stack.

Thom smiled. "I should probably leave you to that. As you can see, I=m not getting any work done myself."

I should have caught myself, but the words slipped out anyway. "What are you doing?"
He laughed. "The kindergartners and I made popsicle-
stick angels yesterday. Mason, in the a.m. kindergartenCyou

costoflovefront2.jpg

The Cost of Love by Drue Allan

Genre: romantic suspense
Format: hardback

Length: 311 pages

Publisher: Five Star

Pub Date: March, 2010

What I love : The Cost of Love is a breath of fresh air with action and romance packaged into one! This is a must read for those of you who love romance and love a fast paced book. At first you don't know if Dean and Lucinda will succeed, but you also don't expect where the situation would lead. I won't say anymore as I consider this a must read!

Rating: star3a.gifstar3a.gifstar3a.gifstar3a.gif

Synopsis:

National security comes at a price. Dean Dreiser learned that lesson long ago. Now, domestic terrorists are testing a biological weapon in southern New Mexico, and Dean is forced to take a new partner—Dr. Lucinda Brown. Lucy is the leading expert in molecular biology, but she has no field experience. Separately, they don’t stand a chance against what dominates the night skies of Roswell, New Mexico. Together, they can do more than survive. They can do their jobs in spite of the scariest thing to crawl out of Roswell since 1947.

The terrorists are willing to kill thousands in order to trigger the fall of the two-party system and usher in a new political dawn. Lucy tracks the genetic print of the weapon while Dean hunts the insurgents. As fate hurtles them across the desert toward a final showdown, Dean will be forced to decide between national security and Lucy. He knows which he has to choose and curses himself for hesitating.

Dean Dreiser can’t afford The Cost of Love.

Autumn Equinox Arrives!

I've developed an amateur interest in the moon and sun and learning why the seasons change. September 22, 2009, at 5:18 p.m. EDT marks the exact moment when fall arrives and the astrological calendar enters the sign of Libra. The days and nights will become nearly equal in length, creating balance, as daytime and night both have durations of approximately twelve hours.

The Autumnal Equinox signals the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and is celebrated by many cultures worldwide. Derived from the Latin words aequus (equal) and nox (night), the equinox typically enters between September 22-24 when the sun appears to cross the celestial equator from north to south.

The Harvest Moon is the name of the full moon arriving closest to the Autumnal Equinox. In two years out of every three the Harvest Moon rises in September instead of October. The Harvest Moon shines this year on October 4, 2009. No matter where you live in the Northern Hemisphere, the moon will look round and full as it rises in the east around sunset. Farmers will work well into the night to gather their crops as the bright light of the Harvest Moon fills the sky and shines down on the earth.

Late September marks the cycle when grapes are traditionally harvested, pressed, and stored to become wine. When the light of the full Harvest Moon, also called the Wine Moon or Fruit Moon, shines bright across half the world on October 4, snuggle close to the one you love and toast the new season with full-bodied glasses of wine or cups of cider.

Who could ask for a more romantic setting than love, a good vintage, and a warm blanket spread beneath the glow of a full Harvest Moon?

DESERT NECTAR--IN TRADE PAPERBACK!

September is the month of the Harvest Moon. If the lovers in my new trade paperback release DESERT NECTAR were driving through The Sonoran Desert, the full moon would cast bright light over their Thunderbird convertible and the Saguaro cactus that symbolizes America’s most hostile desert.

Caitlyn Spencer and Sonny Wild Horse Hendricks would hear the sounds of coyotes, running deer, crickets and katydids in the distance. Desert Lavender and the citrus fragrance of Ragged Rock Flowers that grow through cliff side cracks would scent the night. The blend of The Sonora’s sights, scents, and solitude would create the perfect backdrop for love.

Assuming they had enough water and shelter to avoid dehydration, vipers, and mountain lions.

Of course, “Guy,” the Thunderbird’s magical, slightly kinky GPS navigation system would guide them safely through the night. “Guy” isn’t exactly a genie, but has the power to locate whatever is needed most. He responds to a satellite system buried deep inside the atmosphere. Finding a safe, cozy spot for lovemaking beneath the light of the Harvest Moon is a made to order assignment for “Guy.”

If you had a GPS system like “Guy” what would you wish for?

The car is equipped with a powerful but endearingly kinky GPS navigator that grants wishes. Though not exactly a genie, “Guy’s” system locates whatever his driver needs most.
