Survivor by Liddy Midnight
Genre: Erotic Romance (Paranormal/Shapeshifter)
Author Website: http://www.liddymidnight.com/
Publisher: Ellora's Cave
What I liked:
Liddy Midnight created a world just complex enough for 100+ pages, but not so complex that I got bogged down in the details or taken out of the story, which was refreshing. She integrated highly erotic love scenes into the story seamlessly, and made the emotional connections deeper than I have typically found in erotica. The heroine (an exotic shapeshifter named Harna) was well-done, and the scenes told from Harna's perspective were excellent. Unfortunately, more than half the book was from the hero's perspective, which I didn't find engaging. But the heroine made it all worthwhile. I would recommend this to the average reader with three stars, but if you're into shapeshifting romance exclusively, I would recommend it more strongly. Midnight is quite a good writer.
After a horrific training accident with his fighter squadron, pilot Doug is transported to a world he's seen in powerful sexual dreams featuring a mahogany-skinned beauty with silver hair. It can't be real--people there become dragons at will. To his shock, he discovers he can transform as well.
Harna, the woman of his dreams, makes him feel welcome. The sex is mind-blowing but too much about this world defies logic. This must be another dream. Doug only knows he's falling in love and if he's right, he'll have to leave Harna behind when he wakes up.
(This originally appeared in the Transformations anthology, which is pictured above.)
