Publisher: Ellora's Cave

Rating: star4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gif

What I liked (SPOILERS):
This was definitely a quickie. I'd barely felt like I'm in the mind of the characters, and then it was done. Definitely not a romance, although it was romantic. But this was erotica, with toys and cars and bondage fun. It was an interesting book that I enjoyed, although the writing at times left something to be desired. And the very first scene read a little bit too much like a rape scene (it was sort of a rape fantasy--played out by a husband and wife... but as a reader, I didn't know that while I was reading). I almost stopped reading. But it wasn't violent and it wasn't really non-consent, although it appeared to be, at first glance. And in the end, when I found out who the characters were, it made a lot of sense to me, and I thought it was as well done as it could have been. But I thought it was a unique plot, and if you're into bondage fun, this is definitely the quickie for you. ;-)

What I liked:
In addition to being a great romp, this was a really beautiful love story. I found myself caught up in the lives of Eric and Brenna, and I was so inspired by the love they felt for one another that the passion they shared sexually was a natural out-flowing of their solid relationship. This isn't a meet-cute-then-jump-in-bed book. It's a story about a couple who has a very passionate relationship who decides to take it to the next level. But the main gist of the story is a really beautiful romance. I love books like this. The whole initiation of the relationship with the best friend was a bit awkward, and unlike most m/m/f stories I've read. Otherwise, I probably would have given this one five stars. But I really enjoyed the book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a spicy, passionate love story. Cheers to the author.

Book Blurb

A teasing remark from his best friend sends Eric McFarland ten years back in time to his college days, when sex was wild and plentiful. Now happily engaged to Brenna West, Eric has no desire to be with any other woman.

Brenna loves Eric with all her heart and wants no other man. Yet when Eric says he and Keith want to give her one night of incredible passion and pleasure, she can’t possibly turn down their generous offer.

What I liked:
Loved the cover. As soon as I saw the cover, I thought, I'm going to like this book. It has been awhile since I'd read a vampire book, so I was definitely in the mood for it. Not at all Twilight-y, Candace Sams creates a dark world in DarkStar Guardian where the vampires don't make the rules. The sex scenes are hot, and the hero is hotter. This is what I have come to expect from Candace Sams, having read several of her books now. Definitely has an eye for the erotic. Some of the non-erotic writing is difficult to get through, but when you get to the build-up and the sexy, she knows how to deliver. I'm going to guess that there's a sequel brewing in the author's head, given the ending, so I look forward to reading more about Maggie's story. Gotta love a vampire with a dog. :-) I would recommend this book generally to an erotica reading audience with a three-star salute, but higher to a vampire audience. DarkStar has all the elements of the vampire world we know and love.

Rating: star4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gif

What I liked:
First of all, Jones wins a prize for the most creative aphrodisiac ever: buying goldfish at the pet store. Plus, the heroine was just so unique. Her inner monologue was killer, and by the end of the book, I found myself hoping that Amarinda Jones would write another book about this couple. Very hot, very charming, very entertaining and funny. There were a few slow parts, but in general, the heroine carried it. And that's unusual for a romance novel. The hero was nothing to laugh at, either. Hot. All in all, a very good read.

What I liked: Trapped Magic, romance, and lust, what could go wrong with this book? Nothing, it was a great read from start to finish. The author made her world and her characters believable. For those of you searching for that book with out of this world romance and a bit of magical fantasy, this is the book for you!

The Pen & Muse Review: SAVING SARAH

Author: Michele Bardsley
Genre: Paranormal novella from Ellora’s Cave TWILIGHT
Price & Info: ISBN: 9781419926181
Price: $4.45 (e-book) Available at: www.ellorascave.com

Rating: star4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gif

What I liked
This story alluded to a modern day evil act then brought in the supernatural to save the day. Sarah obviously loves her husband and I was happy to see her heal and grow, and the use of a threesome in a most unusual circumstance was done tastefully. To show ghosts give up their reward then to earn redemption brought a story of darkness and evilness toward a happy ending.

Book Blurb

A couple marred by tragedy indulges in a night of passion to redeem their marriage—and the lost soul of the handsome ghost who shares their bed. But the evil that almost destroyed them all a year ago still lurks in their lives, and it wants revenge…

Review: Major Pleasure by Denise A. Agnew

Major Pleasure
 By Denise A. Agnew

Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance Novella (Military/Medical)

Release: January 29, 2010 as single title (originally released in Honor Bound trilogy, also from Ellora's Cave)

Publisher: Ellora's Cave

Rating: star4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gif

What I liked:
Wow. The build-up in this book is phe-nom-enal. I found myself actually holding my breath several times, waiting for the build-up to end, thinking it would, and it didn't. Excellent. The first few pages frustrated me a bit. It could be because I'm used to the Ellora's Cave stories that move along a little more quickly. But I thought the first couple of pages with the meet-cute were slow. It picked up after that, though. The character development was really good, and I felt really connected to both major characters. This is a very hot story. The By Honor Bound trilogy is a good 2 out of 3 so far. Unlike the one I previously reviewed, there isn't any "action" to get in the way of the action. (i.e. there's no war to get in the way of the sex.) If that's your style, definitely check this out.

The Pen & Muse Review: HEART OF GOLD

Author: Riley Ashford
Genre: Paranormal quickie released January 22 at Ellora’s Cave
Price & Info: ISBN: 9781419925726
Price: $2.49 (e-book) Available at: www.ellorascave.com

Rating: star4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gif

What I liked

The parallel stories. Centered around an old southern plantation, empty for two hundred years due to being haunted, I found the ghosts’ stories sweet as well as sad. The new owner, Kylie, never knew the love of family but is determined to restore the place. In walks the black descendant of a former slave from the property and the heat level rises. I liked their open, honest feelings, especially Kylie’s use of food adjectives…chocolate toes, anyone?

Book Blurb

Local “history” says Gilmore Tucker sold Paradise, the beautiful slave he loved, and murdered his wife. So why is Gilmore trapped in his old plantation house, lamenting his lost love and fending off the evil bitch he married?

Enter Kylie Goldheart, looking for a place to belong and hoping the abandoned Tucker’s Plantation will be it. After cracking her noggin by a push from a not-so-friendly ghost, she’s rescued by Gil Baker, Gilmore’s descendent, who has returned to honor his ancestors by reuniting Paradise with her soul mate…if sprinkling her ashes on Gilmore’s grave can be considered an appropriate reunion.

The attraction between Kylie and very sexy Gil is intense, but their instant romance riles the evil lingering among the crumbling ruins of the magnificent old house.

Publisher Note: Previously published elsewhere under the title Tucker’s Paradise, but has been expanded for EC.

Review: Charming Annie by Arianna Hart

Charming Annie
By Arianna Hart

Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance (Military/Medical)

Release: January 29, 2010 as single title (originally released in Honor Bound trilogy, also from Ellora's Cave)

Price: $5.20 (available as an e-book only) ISBN: 9781419924972

Publisher: Ellora's Cave

Rating: star4a.gifstar4a.gifstar4a.gif

What I liked:
Hot-hot-hot! Arianna Hart can definitely write one hot sex scene. I appreciated, as a reader, that the romance was so deeply entwined in the sex, as well. I loved the fact that the heroine wanted the sex to be more than just sex, and wasn't afraid to admit that to herself (even if she couldn't admit it to the hero). And definitely one hot hero. The badass military type with a heart of gold. While I loved the characters, the conflict they were caught up in seemed very contrived, and took away from some of my enjoyment of the love story. But in the end, I was satisfied with what I read, and the way the story climaxed. I do appreciate the way that this book ended, and I was happy to have read it, when it was all over. I did not know, until looking at Ellora's Cave, that this was part of a trilogy on military heroes. I will definitely be checking out the other two books in this trilogy. Unlike mainline contemporary heroes, I think military heroes have a violent edge to them that they can satisfy that doesn't make them frightening to read. Plus, when you're such a great mixture of hot and sweet and completely badass, like Mace here, it's just a pleasure to know you.

Book Blurb
As Major Annie Forbes heads home from her shift as a nurse at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the last thing she expects is to be running for her life.

With the help of Mason “Mace” O’Keefe, an injured helicopter pilot, Annie must find a way to save the hospital from being blown up by a fanatic terrorist group. As the danger heats up, so does the attraction between Mace and Annie.

Now they just have to survive long enough to see if their smoldering attraction is just adrenaline or something more.

What I liked: What is there not to love? Clark immerses the reader in a world that is imaginary yet bordering on the verge of being absolutely real. I really enjoyed Ayla's story (Love the name, too) and how she is trying to find herself, maybe in her pack, but also by herself. She is doubtful as to where she will find home and feel comfortable. What then sets the story on fire is when Ayla gets involved in a missing person's case and her loyalties are tested? Will she find the missing person and find her rightful place? This is a must read!
